Indian fast-bowler Mohammed Siraj officially took on a new role as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Telangana on Friday, October 11. The 30-year-old reported to the Director General of Police (DGP) in Telangana to assume his new position, marking a significant milestone in his off-field journey. This honour was bestowed upon Siraj in recognition of his exceptional contributions to Indian cricket.
Back in July, the Telangana government, led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, announced Group-1 jobs for Siraj and world champion boxer Nikhat Zareen to celebrate their achievements in sports. To facilitate these appointments, the state government amended the Telangana (Regulation of appointments to public services and rationalisation of staff pattern and pay structure) Act, 1994.
Siraj’s appointment came in the wake of his stellar performance for Team India, especially his role in helping India clinch the T20 World Cup in June. Siraj was the sole player from Telangana in the victorious squad, further elevating his significance to the state. Additionally, Siraj has represented India in crucial tournaments such as the World Test Championship final and last year’s ODI World Cup.

One of his career-defining moments came in the 2023 Asia Cup final, where Siraj dismantled Sri Lanka’s batting lineup with a sensational six-wicket haul, helping India secure the trophy. His consistent performances have cemented his place in the national team across all three formats.

Siraj was last seen in action during India’s recent Test series against Bangladesh, where he contributed four wickets across two matches to help India complete a clean sweep. He is currently resting alongside several senior players during the ongoing T20I series against Bangladesh but is expected to return to action later this month when India faces New Zealand in a three-match Test series. The series kicks off on October 16 in Bengaluru, followed by India’s much-anticipated tour of Australia for a five-match Test series.
