India achieved a record-breaking feat in T20I cricket as they posted a monumental total of 297/6 in the third T20I against Bangladesh on Saturday, October 12, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. This stunning total marked India’s highest score in T20I cricket, largely thanks to an explosive century by Sanju Samson, who was the star of the night.

Sanju Samson, who had been under pressure after recent low scores, silenced his critics with a breathtaking knock of 111 off just 47 balls. He smashed 11 fours and eight towering sixes, thrilling the Hyderabad crowd with his remarkable strokeplay.

The right-handed batsman brought up his maiden T20I century in just 40 balls, making it one of the fastest hundreds in the format. His incredible innings was perfectly complemented by captain Suryakumar Yadav, who played an equally impressive knock of 75 from 35 deliveries, which included eight boundaries and five sixes.

Middle-order batsmen Riyan Parag (34 off 13 balls) and Hardik Pandya (47 off 18 balls) continued the carnage, contributing valuable runs in the latter half of the innings. Their powerful hitting propelled India to 297/6, surpassing their previous highest T20I score of 261/3, which they had set against Sri Lanka in 2017. This massive score now ranks as the second-highest team total in T20I history, just behind Nepal’s 314/3 against Mongolia in 2023.

Despite losing opener Abhishek Sharma early, Samson and Suryakumar launched a counter-attack, adding a phenomenal 173 runs in just 70 balls for the second wicket. Their explosive partnership set the stage for India’s record total, which was capped off by Parag’s final six over long on, leaving Bangladesh in disarray.
