Australian captain Pat Cummins is determined to achieve a long-awaited victory against India in the upcoming Test series, which will feature the highly coveted Border-Gavaskar Trophy. For Cummins, winning the series holds special significance, as he has never beaten India in a Test series during his career. Reflecting on the past, Cummins was part of the Australian squad that lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to India in 2017, and since then, the trophy has remained firmly in India’s grasp.

With the opportunity to reclaim this prestigious silverware, Pat Cummins and his team are eager to assert their dominance in the international cricketing arena. The 31-year-old fast bowler has an impressive collection of titles, including the Ashes, the ODI World Cup, the T20 World Cup, and the World Test Championship. Now, he hopes to add the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to his list of achievements.

In an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald, Pat Cummins candidly admitted, “I was thinking about it the other day. It’s close to the only thing I haven’t really ticked off. I’ve not beaten India in a Test series yet. A few of the guys have, but I haven’t.”

His determination is palpable, especially considering that he has faced challenges in previous encounters as captain during the Border-Gavaskar series. Since he was appointed captain in late 2021, Cummins has navigated the complexities of leadership with a blend of humility and confidence.

Pat Cummins shared insights about the transition from being an aspiring player to a captain, saying, “My whole life, you look up to the Australian captain, and you’re like, ‘oh wow, they’re so accomplished, and they must have all their stuff together.’ And then suddenly when you are captain, you realize that you’re expected to embody that role.”

He emphasized the importance of support from his teammates during this adjustment period, acknowledging that he was chosen for the role before he fully recognized his own capabilities.
