Virat Kohli was among the first to congratulate Sarfaraz, enthusiastically patting him on the back with a broad smile. Kohli then turned his attention to Rishabh Pant, who was also enjoying a fine innings with an unbeaten fifty. Unfortunately, rain interrupted play, prompting the umpires to call an early lunch, and forcing the players back to the dressing room.

The partnership between Sarfaraz Khan and Virat Kohli on Day 3 proved crucial for India. Together, they forged a formidable 136-run stand for the third wicket, effectively rescuing India from a precarious position. Their aggressive batting style allowed them to maintain a commendable run rate of five runs per over, applying pressure back onto the New Zealand bowlers.

While it seemed like they would remain unbeaten until the end of Day 3, Kohli was dismissed off the last ball, edging a delivery from Glenn Phillips to the wicketkeeper. Despite Kohli’s exit, Sarfaraz continued his impressive form throughout the day, executing a series of boundaries with finesse.

By the time lunch arrived, he had amassed an impressive 125 runs off just 154 balls, peppered with 16 fours and three sixes, showcasing a blend of aggression and skill. Sarfaraz Khan’s innings was a display of audacious shot-making, demonstrating his versatility as he deftly manoeuvred the ball around the ground. His gameplay was exemplary, as he consistently found gaps, nudging balls through the third-man region and over the slips.

Sarfaraz Khan combined cheeky shots with powerful sweeps against the spinners, disrupting their lengths and preventing them from settling into a rhythm. Whether playing off the front foot or the back foot, his shot selection was on point. His batting partner, Rishabh Pant, provided solid support, batting on 53 off 56 balls, featuring five fours and three sixes.

The duo’s impressive performance reduced India’s significant deficit to just 12 runs by lunch. They were determined to build a substantial lead once play resumed and aimed to post a formidable total on the board.
