During a tense moment in the Test match, Sarfaraz Khan’s quick thinking and sharp instincts played a pivotal role in securing a crucial wicket for India. The incident unfolded when New Zealand’s Will Young missed a ball down the leg side, and despite a strong appeal, the umpire chose not to raise his finger.

Sarfaraz Khan persuaded Rohit Sharma for a successful DRS

While the bowler, Ravi Ashwin, wasn’t entirely convinced that Young had edged it, Sarfaraz, fielding at leg-slip, was certain there had been a deflection. He immediately urged captain Rohit Sharma to go for the DRS (Decision Review System), knowing how important the wicket could be.

Rishabh Pant, behind the stumps, also did a brilliant job collecting the ball, as deliveries down the leg side are notoriously tricky to grab cleanly. While Rohit initially hesitated, he trusted Sarfaraz’s conviction and decided to take the review. As it turned out, Sarfaraz’s instincts were spot on – Young had indeed got a faint edge, and the decision was overturned, giving India a major breakthrough.

At the time of writing, New Zealand were at 92 for two, with Rachin Ravindra joining Devon Conway at the crease. Ashwin had already taken both wickets, proving once again why he’s such a key asset to India’s bowling attack. The pitch, much better for batting compared to Bengaluru’s surface on day one, seemed to offer New Zealand a fighting chance, but India was determined to keep the pressure on.
