India’s off-spinner Washington Sundar once again delivered a critical breakthrough, dismissing Rachin Ravindra in both innings of the ongoing second Test at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. Sundar’s skilful bowling has proven effective against the New Zealand batter, similarly claiming his wicket each time.

In New Zealand’s second innings, Sundar bowled a well-placed length ball from around the wicket at a good pace. Ravindra, aiming for a cut shot, misjudged the speed as the ball skidded on and smashed into his off stump. The ball didn’t turn as expected, instead moving straight after pitching, catching Ravindra off guard and dismissing him for a mere 9 runs.

This wicket was particularly crucial for India, as Ravindra had been a persistent challenge throughout the series. In the first innings, he scored an impressive 65, frustrating the Indian bowlers with his resilience at the crease. Sundar’s persistence paid off, however, as he eventually bowled Ravindra with another deceptive delivery that turned away to hit the stumps.

Ravindra’s dismissal in the second innings came at a pivotal moment, energizing the Indian squad who were looking to disrupt New Zealand’s steady progress. Sundar’s performance was commendable; he had already taken three of New Zealand’s top four wickets in the second innings, setting the tone for India’s bowling attack.

His consistent line and length forced the New Zealand batters to play cautiously, and the quick breakthrough proved invaluable as India sought to keep the visitors’ lead in check. Ravindra, who had looked solid and composed up until that point, appeared visibly disappointed, realizing Sundar had once again gotten the better of him.

The young off-spinner’s ability to outwit Ravindra twice in the same match highlights his growing prowess in the Test format and underscores his importance in India’s spin arsenal. Sundar’s wicket-taking deliveries, along with his calm under pressure, continue to give India hope as they aim to turn the match in their favour.
