Veteran Indian player turned commentator Aakash Chopra has shared his shock over Virat Kohli’s run-out in India’s first innings of the third Test against New Zealand in Mumbai. He said that it was a judgment error by Kohli as well. However, India bowled New Zealand out for 235 in their first innings on Friday, November 1. Team India ended Day 1 on 86/4 in their first essay, with Kohli’s run-out on four being the last wicket to fall as well.

During a discussion on Colors Cineplex, Chopra said, “Rohit Sharma had to judge length and he made a mistake in that. He felt it was a fullish delivery and he didn’t go back. Virat Kohli felt there was a single there but there wasn’t. Ultimately, it was an error of judgment, whether the run was available or not. If your judgment is clouded or there are cobwebs, you see mistakes. Virat Kohli – I am absolutely shocked because this is not a technical flaw. You try to address a technical flaw but this judgment call has pushed India back.”

“However, let’s be fair, Rishabh Pant is there with Shubman Gill. If both of them play one-and-a-half sessions, you will forget what had happened, but this run-out has hurt because the bowler did not have any role in it, it wasn’t a technical flaw. It’s probably the lack of confidence that eventually impairs your judgment slightly,” he further added.

In the same discussion, Aakash Chopra was also asked whether Virat Kohli might have been under pressure because of the series situation as well.

“This is a team game. You definitely talk about where the series is standing, and what would happen in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy or the World Test Championship, but the biggest pressure is of your own form or performance. If you haven’t scored runs or picked up wickets, there is no greater pressure than that. You make mistakes only when there is more pressure. We have rarely seen him making a mistake in running between the wickets but we saw that also today,” Aakash Chopra concluded.
