In the second T20I of the four-match series at St George’s Park, India faced a challenging start against South Africa. After losing the toss and being put in to bat, the visitors hoped to carry the momentum from their victory in the first game to seal the series. However, South Africa quickly took control with a stellar bowling display, putting India under immediate pressure.

Sanju Samson, India’s star from the previous match with a stunning century, couldn’t replicate his performance and fell for a duck in the opening over. Samson’s early dismissal set India on the back foot, and they struggled to regain balance. Abhishek Sharma followed Samson shortly, and when Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed not long after, India found themselves in serious trouble.

With the score teetering, Axar Patel and Tilak Varma took on the task of steadying the innings. Patel attempted a counter-attacking approach that started to pay off, helping India inch toward a recovery.

Tilak Varma also looked to join in during Aiden Markram’s eighth over, where he saw an opportunity to take on the South African skipper. On the final ball of the over, Varma attempted an inside-out shot over the infield, aiming to clear the off side.

The ball seemed destined to race past the cover fielders, but David Miller had other plans. Timing his dive to perfection, the 35-year-old leapt and snatched the ball mid-air, leaving the crowd and Varma in shock with a spectacular catch. Miller’s brilliance sent Varma back to the pavilion, deepening India’s troubles as they slipped to 45/4 after eight overs.
