The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction has taken place on November 24 and 25, 2024 at Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. The two-day mega auction – which takes place once every three years – will see some renowned players go under the hammer as well, including Rishabh Pant, Mitchell Starc, KL Rahul, Jos Buttler and to name a few.
The 10 IPL franchises will take part in the auction, where a total of 577 players enter the bidding process as well. Among them, 367 will be Indian, while 210 are overseas as well. Moreover, each IPL team must have at least 18 players in their roster at the end of the auction as well.
Here are the players Sunrisers Hyderabad retained before the mega auction.
Before Auction
Retained Players: Pat Cummins, Abhishek Sharma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Heinrich Klaasen, Travis Head
SRH: 45 crore – Remaining Slots – 20, Overseas 5
During Auction
Mohammed Shami: KKR bid for Shami whose base price was INR 2 crore. CSK come in at INR 2.20 crore and the two teams went for the fast bowler. KKR bid for INR 8.25 crore as well whereas Lucknow Super Giants have joined in with INR 8.50 crore. However, SRH came in with INR 10 crore and bought him.
Harshal Patel: Allrounder Harshal Patel went in the bids at the base price of 2 crore. However, SRH made the first move for Harshal. GT joined the bidding for Harshal as well and the bid went to 3 crore. The bid has touched 6 crore and SRH returned at 6.25 crore. While PBKS used their RTM, SRH hiked the price up to 8 crore and bought him as well.
Ishan Kishan: Ishan Kishan will ask for bids from 2 crore. MI jump into the action straightaway. PBKS enter the bidding and compete with MI for Kishan.
Explosive keeper-batters are always in demand. Steady lifting of paddles across the MI and PBKS tables.
New-bidder alert: DC join. MI have pulled out for now. PBKS escalate the bid to 5 crore.
More back and forth. Jindal has a smile on his faces as he raises his paddle and raises the bid to 6.25 crore. Another fierce bidding war but not surprising.
The bid has reached 7.75 crore and it’s with DC. PBKS need a moment to recalculate. They’re back in at 8 crore. DC keep going, as do PBKS.
DC and PBKS slug it out for Kishan. DC eventually drop out. PBKS in the lead at 9.5 crore.
Oh, DC jump back into it and put in one more bid. PBKS raise it up to 10 crore.
Welcome, SRH. They come in at 10.25 crore. Kishan could add more firepower to their line-up. They love their powerplayers, don’t they?
SRH keep bidding for Kishan. They’re in the lead at 11.25 crore. That’s the winning bid
Rahul Chahar: He had a base price of INR 1 crore and SRH started the bidding for the legspinner. Mumbai Indians also jumped in. The bids went to INR 2 crore. Soon Mumbai backed out, but LSG entered the bid. However, SRH raised the bid to 3.20 crore and had the last laugh.
Adam Zampa: He had a base price of INR 2 crore. And, SRH joined in at the base price. Rajasthan Royals also joined but SRH came back at INR 2.40 crore and picked him up for INR 2.40 crore only.
Atharva Taide: He entered with a base price of 30 lakh and SRH bought him at that price as well.
Abhinav Manohar: He had a base price of 30 lakh. He was part of Gujarat Titans last season. RCB bid for him and CSK too joined. The bids soon went up to the 1 crore mark. RCB have backed out but Titans came in and held at INR 1.8 crore, but CSK returned at INR 1.90 crore. KKR too joined the bid but SRH bought Abhinav Manohar for INR 3.20 crore.
