Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has found itself at the centre of criticism from fans following their decisions during the IPL 2025 mega-auction. The franchise opted not to retain Mohammed Siraj and Will Jacks, raising eyebrows across social media. Adding to the backlash, RCB did not pursue KL Rahul aggressively, allowing him to join Delhi Capitals for INR 14 crore.
The only notable acquisition from the marquee list was England’s Liam Livingstone, which further fueled fan disappointment. Despite the uproar, RCB’s Director of Cricket, Mo Bobat, remained unperturbed and defended the team’s auction strategy.
Mo Bobat emphasized the importance of sticking to a well-thought-out plan amidst the frenzied bidding wars. He acknowledged that many teams spent extravagantly but stressed that RCB remained calm and focused on assembling a balanced squad. In a video shared by RCB, Bobat expressed satisfaction with the franchise’s acquisitions, highlighting the bolstered batting unit.

Among the key signings was Phil Salt, who impressed with 435 runs in 12 matches for Kolkata Knight Riders during IPL 2024. Bobat also praised the inclusion of Liam Livingstone for INR 8.75 crore, Jitesh Sharma for INR 11 crore, and Josh Hazlewood for INR 12.50 crore. He described these additions as vital to RCB’s strategy for the upcoming season.
“Interesting day. Lots of money spent early, which was fascinating to watch. The key in these situations is to have a clear strategy and stay calm while others get caught in ego-driven bidding wars. We’re pleased with our decisions and have worked hard to build a powerful batting line-up,” Mo Bobat explained.
Mo Babat lauded Livingstone’s role in strengthening the middle order and noted Jitesh Sharma’s potential as a dynamic finisher akin to Dinesh Karthik. On the bowling front, Bobat was thrilled to retain Hazlewood, whose experience will be crucial.
