India’s pace sensation Jasprit Bumrah has reclaimed the top spot in the ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings after his stellar performance in India’s commanding 295-run victory over Australia in the first Test of the ICC World Test Championship series in Perth. Bumrah’s devastating spells of 5/30 and 3/42 not only dismantled Australia’s batting lineup but also earned him a career-high 883 rating points.

This feat marks the highest rating ever achieved by an Indian pace bowler, trailing only spinners Ravichandran Ashwin (904) and Ravindra Jadeja (899) in overall ratings among Indian bowlers. This marks Bumrah’s third time atop the rankings in 2024, following similar stretches in February and October. His efforts have propelled India to a dominant start in the five-match series and reflected positively in the rankings of other key players.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored a dazzling 161 in the second innings, has climbed to a career-best second position among batters, surpassing renowned names like Kane Williamson and Harry Brook. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli’s unbeaten century has lifted him nine spots to 13th, a welcome return to form for the batting maestro.

KL Rahul also made significant strides, jumping from 60th to 49th, while Nitish Kumar Reddy debuted in the batting rankings at 74th. In the bowling department, Mohammad Siraj’s rise to 25th position underscores India’s collective dominance. Australia’s Travis Head offered resistance with a valiant 89 in the second innings, returning to the top 10 batters, while Alex Carey (up to 39th) and Mitchell Marsh (up to 68th among bowlers) also made gains.

However, Steve Smith’s struggles continued as he dropped to seventh place, his lowest ranking since 2014. Elsewhere, West Indies players shone following their emphatic 201-run win against Bangladesh. Alick Athanaze’s efforts propelled him 18 places to 62nd, while seamers Jayden Seales (11th), Kemar Roach (17th), and Alzarri Joseph (29th) also climbed the rankings.
