Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah lit up the morning session on Day 2 of the Day-Night Test in Adelaide, delivering two significant breakthroughs for India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. After dismissing Nathan McSweeney for 39, Bumrah added the prized scalp of Steve Smith to his tally, further tilting the momentum in India’s favour.
The dismissal of Smith came unexpectedly on the very first ball of the 41st over. Bumrah delivered a seemingly innocuous delivery that angled down the leg side, but it proved to be a game-changer. Smith, known for his unorthodox style and impeccable technique, shuffled across his crease, aiming to flick the ball fine past the wicketkeeper. However, in a rare lapse, he only managed a faint edge.
Rishabh Pant, positioned behind the stumps, showcased his agility and sharp reflexes. Diving swiftly to his left, the Indian wicketkeeper secured the catch cleanly with both hands, leaving no room for doubt. The dismissal stunned the crowd and Smith himself, who shook his head in frustration as he trudged back to the pavilion after scoring just 2 runs off 11 balls.
