India’s star batter Shubman Gill delivered a confident response to Australian skipper Pat Cummins regarding the short-ball tactics ahead of the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 at the Gabba. Cummins, during a press conference, suggested that targeting Indian batters with short balls had proven effective. However, Gill dismissed the claim, pointing out that it hadn’t significantly troubled India’s batting lineup.

Shubman Gill stated, “I don’t think they were successful with their short-ball tactics. Apart from the tail-enders, only one of our top-order batters got out to the short ball in Adelaide. So, I’m not sure what success he’s talking about.” His composed yet assertive reply highlighted his confidence in India’s batting capabilities and set the tone for what promises to be a fiercely contested encounter.

That match, remembered as one of the greatest comebacks in cricket, saw an injury-hit Indian team breach Australia’s “Gabba fortress.” Under Ajinkya Rahane’s captaincy, India chased down a daunting target on the final day, thanks to Rishabh Pant’s heroic unbeaten 89.

The victory not only retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy but also etched India’s name in cricketing folklore. Fast forward to the ongoing series, and the stakes are just as high. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy is currently level at 1-1. India started strong, dominating the Aussies in Perth, but Australia roared back with an emphatic win in the Day-Night Test in Adelaide.
