Australia and India are set to resume their fierce rivalry in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024-25) with the fourth Test scheduled to begin on December 26 at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Both teams will be eager to gain an advantage in this pivotal Boxing Day clash.
In a significant announcement, Australia’s Head Coach Andrew McDonald confirmed that 19-year-old Sam Konstas will make his Test debut. At just 19 years and 85 days, Konstas will become the fourth youngest Australian to receive the prestigious Baggy Green cap. This move highlights Australia’s commitment to nurturing young talent, even on the grand stage of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Speaking about Konstas’ inclusion, McDonald expressed confidence in the youngster’s abilities. “From the start of the summer, we’ve emphasized that age is no barrier. Sam has shown a wide array of shots and an ability to put pressure on the opposition. He’s earned this opportunity, and we’re thrilled for him,” McDonald told ESPNcricinfo. While Konstas’ debut is confirmed, the final playing XI will be announced by skipper Pat Cummins during the pre-match press conference.

Amid the excitement over Konstas, questions linger about the fitness of Australia’s star batter, Travis Head. Head sustained a minor quad strain during the third Test in Brisbane and missed fielding duties in the second innings.
Addressing his availability, Andrew McDonald said, “Travis still has some things to work through, but there’s no significant concern at the moment. He looked good with the bat during training, and his skills are in excellent shape. It’s about assessing the risk associated with his quad strain.”
