India’s bowling attack in the ongoing 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy has had its ups and downs, with Jasprit Bumrah standing out as the team’s most consistent performer. The series is currently tied at 1-1, and with the Boxing Day Test at the MCG looming, it is set to be a crucial match for both sides. India, while facing scrutiny over their batting approach, has also seen their bowlers struggle in the last two Tests in Adelaide and Brisbane, where the Australian batsmen dominated.

Despite the setbacks, Indian Test captain Rohit Sharma has shown unwavering faith in his bowlers, commending their attitude and determination, especially in challenging situations. He believes that the bowling unit has the ability to rise to the occasion in Melbourne.

Addressing the media ahead of the fourth Test, Rohit Sharma said, “For me as a captain, my messaging to them is very plain and simple. Keep running in hard and keep doing what you have been doing. They have done the job in the past. It is not that they cannot do it now.”

He also emphasized that difficult periods are part of the game, and it doesn’t diminish the bowlers’ abilities. “Anyone can have tough days, tough games, tough series. But it does not mean that they are not good enough to perform at this level. It happened so that in these two or three games, they have not been able to get those big numbers. But that is okay. It happens. But I have enough confidence and faith in them. The attitude is what matters to me. And Siraj has really shown great attitude on this tour so far,” Rohit added.

Jasprit Bumrah has been the standout performer, leading the bowling charts with 21 wickets at an impressive economy rate of 2.60 and an average of just 10.90. His consistency has been crucial for India in keeping the Australian batsmen in check.

Mohammed Siraj, despite taking wickets and maintaining a good average, has been prone to conceding runs too quickly, something the Indian team will need to address. Unfortunately, none of the other bowlers have stepped up consistently, leaving India hoping that their key bowlers will deliver in the Melbourne Test.
