Star cricketers Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were visibly upset during India’s practice session at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) ahead of the much-anticipated Boxing Day Test. Fans gathered in large numbers to catch a glimpse of their favourite players, but persistent and disruptive demands from the crowd left the senior players frustrated.

According to reports from RevSportz, some fans incessantly shouted for Kohli and Rohit to play specific shots during their net practice, disrupting the players’ focus. Both cricketers reportedly displayed their displeasure, appearing perturbed during and after their practice sessions. This behaviour marked another instance of fan interference, which has become a growing concern for the team.

Despite the distractions, Kohli and Rohit were determined to put in solid practice sessions. The duo reportedly had extended and intense stints in the nets, working hard to improve their form ahead of the pivotal match. With the series tied at 1-1, their performances will be critical for India to gain the upper hand in what many see as a series-deciding encounter.

This incident follows a decision by the Indian team, after the first Test in Perth, to limit fan access during training sessions. Previous reports suggested that some supporters crossed the line with abusive comments directed at players, prompting strict measures from Rohit and the team management to safeguard the players’ focus and morale.

On the field, Kohli has shown glimpses of his brilliance, including a century in the second innings of the Perth Test. However, he has struggled to maintain consistency in the series. Rohit, who missed the first match due to personal commitments, has yet to find his rhythm since slotting into the middle order.

India’s record at the MCG has been less than stellar, with eight losses in 14 matches. However, they can draw inspiration from their memorable eight-wicket victory at the venue during the 2020-21 series, which helped script a historic comeback. With so much at stake, fans and players alike will hope for a repeat of that performance as India looks to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
