During a thrilling SA20 encounter between Durban’s Super Giants (DSG) and Pretoria Capitals (PC) at Durban, an unforgettable moment unfolded when a fan in the stands took a sensational one-handed catch, earning a staggering INR 90 lakh (2 million South African Rand). This remarkable feat quickly became a global talking point.

The life-changing incident occurred during the 17th over of DSG’s innings. Kane Williamson launched a slower delivery from Eathan Bosch into the crowd for a massive six, sending the ball soaring towards the stands. A fan, displaying exceptional reflexes and agility, turned an ordinary six into an extraordinary moment by completing a clean, one-handed grab.

As part of the tournament’s “Catch a Million” promotion by its sponsors, the lucky individual was rewarded handsomely. Under the competition’s rules, spectators aged 18 and older who make a clean one-handed catch off a six qualify for a share of one million rand.

However, if the individual is a sponsor’s client, the prize money is doubled—a stroke of luck that made this fan’s day all the more rewarding. On the field, DSG set the tone with a commanding batting performance.

After winning the toss and opting to bat, they posted a formidable 209/4. Kane Williamson led from the front with a composed 60*, while Wiaan Mulder’s explosive 45* in the death overs added crucial runs. Earlier, Bryce Parsons (47 off 28) and Matthew Breetzke (33 off 20) laid a solid foundation with their brisk starts.

In response, PC’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz put on a scintillating display, smashing 89 off 43 balls, and combined with Will Jacks (64 off 35) for a blistering 154-run opening stand. The game seemed all but over in PC’s favour, but a sudden batting collapse saw them lose six wickets for just 41 runs.
