As the 2025 Champions Trophy approaches, Varun Chakravarthy is emerging as a potential inclusion in India’s 15-member squad. Reports suggest that the mystery spinner could also feature in the home series against England to gain valuable game time ahead of the marquee event. Although Chakravarthy has yet to play an ODI, his recent domestic and T20I performances have strengthened his case for selection.
Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra recently praised Chakravarthy’s consistent wicket-taking abilities across formats. “Varun Chakravarthy is picking up wickets one after the other. He has performed well in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, including a five-wicket haul against Rajasthan, and has been exceptional since his return to the Indian T20I team,” Aakash Chopra shared on his YouTube channel.

Aakash Chopra also hinted at the possibility of Ravindra Jadeja being excluded to make way for the 33-year-old spinner. “There’s a buzz that Varun Chakravarthy could be picked for the Champions Trophy. If he is included, who will make way? The word is that it could be Ravindra Jadeja,” he speculated.
Additionally, Chopra discussed Axar Patel’s potential inclusion as India’s preferred left-handed spin-bowling all-rounder. “It’s being said that Axar might get the nod over Jadeja. If so, Varun could also find a place in the XI,” he remarked.
The Champions Trophy 2025 will mark the ninth edition of the prestigious tournament, and India is likely to opt for its strongest squad, particularly with subcontinental conditions in mind. Chakravarthy’s unique skill set could prove invaluable, especially given his ability to trouble batters on turning tracks.

For Chakravarthy, a potential debut in the ODI format would be a significant milestone, adding depth to India’s spin department. Meanwhile, the exclusion of a stalwart like Jadeja would undoubtedly spark debates, highlighting the fierce competition for spots in the Indian lineup. As India gears up for the series against England and the Champions Trophy, the focus will remain on selecting the best blend of experience and form to challenge for the title on home soil.
