India’s dynamic young opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal, has confirmed his availability for Mumbai’s upcoming Ranji Trophy clash against Jammu & Kashmir. The match, scheduled to begin on January 23 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, comes as a crucial fixture for Mumbai, who currently sit third in the Elite A group with 22 points from five matches. Jaiswal’s decision to participate not only strengthens Mumbai’s squad but also serves as vital preparation for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy.

The 23-year-old impressed during India’s recent tour of Australia, finishing as the second-highest run-scorer with 391 runs in five Tests, including a memorable century and two half-centuries. Despite India’s 3-1 series defeat, Jaiswal’s performances earned widespread praise from fans and experts alike, cementing his reputation as a rising star in Indian cricket.

According to an Indian Express report, Jaiswal has communicated his availability to Mumbai coach Omkar Salvi. “He has informed the coach that he is ready for the next Ranji Trophy round. The selection committee will finalize the squad soon,” an MCA official shared.

Jaiswal has been a standout performer in the Ranji Trophy, amassing 833 runs in just nine matches at an impressive average of 59.50, including four centuries and two fifties, further underscoring his consistency at the domestic level.

 

Meanwhile, India’s Test and ODI captain, Rohit Sharma, made a rare appearance at Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy practice session at Wankhede on January 14. While his participation in the upcoming game remains unconfirmed, Sharma was seen practicing in the nets alongside Ajinkya Rahane, hinting at potential involvement.

However, Mumbai will miss middle-order mainstay Sarfaraz Khan, sidelined due to a rib injury. The extent of his injury is under evaluation, with the National Cricket Academy taking charge of his recovery. “He has informed us about the injury and will not feature in the next game. The NCA will manage his assessment,” confirmed an MCA official.
