Veteran New Zealand cricketer Martin Guptill recently announced his international retirement and his stellar career was celebrated at Eden Park on Saturday. He took to social media and shared the moments from Guptill’s event. It is worth noting that Guptill last played for New Zealand way back in 2022, despite having retired from international cricket, he will continue to play across various franchise cricket leagues across the globe.
“Yeah, it was really cool. I’ve been lucky enough to play a lot of cricket here, whether it be for Auckland or New Zealand. To be out here again in front of the fans that have made the game so much fun out here, it’s been pretty special. I love Eden Park. From when I was facing the other way of the pitch to now, I’ve always found it a great work here, a great place to play cricket, a great place to bat and I’ve just always had so much fun here,” Martin Guptill said in a video shared by NZC.
However, the veteran talked about how big of a role New Zealand cricket has played in his life. He also stated that despite feeling overwhelmed at times, he did not fail to express his gratitude towards the board as well.
“It’s been pretty overwhelming to be honest and it’s been fantastic, another thank you New Zealand Cricket for organising this. The BlackCaps has been such a big part of my life, 14 years, it’s quite a long time when you think about it and you look back over the career, it’s gone so quickly but I’ve made some great friends over that time and yeah, it was just so cool to actually be part of it,” Martin Guptill concluded.
