The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced a strict 10-point policy aimed at revamping discipline and accountability within the Indian cricket team. The decision comes in the wake of disappointing performances, including a historic home Test series whitewash against New Zealand and a Border-Gavaskar Trophy loss to Australia.
The policy overhaul follows a high-level review meeting attended by head coach Gautam Gambhir, captain Rohit Sharma, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar, amid reports of dressing room discord and lapses in focus among players. One of the most significant mandates is the requirement for players to participate in domestic cricket to remain eligible for national selection and central contracts.
Exceptions will be granted only in extraordinary circumstances with prior approval. Additionally, players are now required to travel and practice together during matches. Individual travel arrangements, especially with family members, are strongly discouraged, and strict baggage limits have been introduced, with excess costs borne by the players.

Key Guidelines from the New Policy
- Travel Policy
Players must travel with the team for all matches and practice sessions, fostering unity and discipline. Any exceptions require prior approval from the selection committee chairman and head coach. - Baggage Policy
Specific baggage limits are set for players and support staff to streamline logistics. For away tours exceeding 30 days, players can carry a maximum of 150 kg, including five items such as suitcases and kit bags. For shorter tours or home series, the limit is reduced to 120 kg. Excess baggage costs will be the responsibility of the individual. - Personal Staff Restrictions
Players cannot bring personal staff, including assistants, chefs, or security personnel, without prior BCCI approval, reducing logistical complications.

- Family Travel Policy
Family visits are allowed only during overseas tours exceeding 45 days. Spouses, partners, and children under 18 can visit for up to two weeks. These visits require prior approval, and any extra expenses beyond the board’s provisions must be borne by the player. - Obligation to Attend Official Events
Players must attend all official BCCI events and promotional activities. They are also required to stay with the team until the conclusion of a series, even if matches end earlier than scheduled.

- Post-Match Stays
To maintain team bonding, players must remain with the squad until the official end of a series or tour, with no exceptions. - Ban on Personal Shoots During Series
Players are prohibited from participating in personal endorsements or shoots during active series to ensure focus remains on cricket. - Participation in Domestic Cricket
Domestic cricket participation is mandatory for selection eligibility and to maintain central contracts. This rule aims to reconnect players with grassroots cricket and improve match readiness. - Equipment Transfers
Players transferring equipment to the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru must inform team management. Any related expenses will be the player’s responsibility. - Consequences for Non-Compliance
Non-adherence to these guidelines can result in severe penalties, including suspension from the Indian Premier League (IPL) and deductions from central contract retainers and match fees.
