Virat Kohli’s much-anticipated return to the Ranji Trophy turned out to be a nightmare as he fell for six runs in Delhi’s crucial round seven encounter against Railways on Saturday. Walked in on the second day, Kohli hardly had any time to settle down before a peach of delivery by Railways pacer Himanshu Sangwan shattered his off-stump, sending bails flying.

The jam-packed crowd at the Arun Jaitley Stadium fell silent as their hometown hero made the long walk back to the pavilion. But what then ensued was an unusual social media fiasco. Enraged Kohli fans stormed Instagram, looking to vent their anger, and began trolling someone named Himanshu Sangwan, only to realize they’d targeted the wrong person.

The man, who had nothing to do with cricket, was flooded with messages and comments. In a frustrated reaction to the mix-up, he went to Instagram and posted a story that read: “Bhaiyo, main woh cricket wala Himanshu Sangwan nahi hoon jo sab soch rahe ho” (Brothers, I am not the cricketer Himanshu Sangwan you think I am).

It was dream moment for the real Himanshu Sangwan right-arm pacer as he dismissed one of cricket’s biggest superstars, in Kohli. It left Delhi struggling at 86/3, still trailing by 135 runs. But captain Ayush Badoni played a crucial counterattacking knock rescuing his team alongside Sumit Mathur who stayed steady at the crease.

Ayush Badoni fell heartbreakingly short of a century, going out on 99 after an entertaining innings laced with 12 fours and three sixes. His dismissal, courtesy of veteran all-rounder Karn Sharma, was a big blow for Delhi. Sharma forced Badoni into an ill-timed shot, leading to a simple catch at short fine leg.
At the time of writing, Delhi had lost half their side but taken the lead by 54 runs, which put the game finely poised.
