Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant went on to yet again win over the hearts of fans with an endearing act after India secured its second one-day international triumph against England. After the game, Rohit, along with Pant, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and coaches, was eating at the hotel where the Indian team was put up in Bhubaneswar when a little boy came by.

What transpired thereafter ensured that the cricketing fraternity smelt roses again. Rohit Sharma, who had just played a match-winning knock of 119 off 90 balls to seal India’s four-wicket win in Cuttack, took the time to interact with the young supporter. The Indian skipper not only signed the boy’s T-shirt but also gave him a reassuring pat on the back, making the moment even more special.

Rishabh Pant joined the discussion and inquired of the fan, “Kya karte ho?” (What do you do?). To this, the boy with much pride claimed he is an all-rounder. He signed autographs for the boy by Pant and Jaiswal and made that as a cherished memory for the youngster. Such off-field magic followed Rohit’s brilliance on-field.

The 37-year-old helped India chase down England’s 305-run target in just 44.3 overs with his century. It was a long-awaited knock, his first ODI century since October 2023, ending a lean patch that had seen him struggle for big scores in international cricket.

His last three-figure score had come in March 2024, in a Test match against England. For Rohit, though, it was just another day at work. Speaking about his innings, he emphasized that his approach remains unchanged despite fluctuations in form.

“In my mind, it was just about doing what I do, trying to bat the way I do. I’ve been here long enough… one or two knocks are not going to change my mindset or the way I play,” Rohit said in a video shared by the BCCI. With the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 fast approaching, this was just about the right time for Rohit to get back in form.

For the third consecutive time as skipper, Rohit would seek his maiden ODI ICC title as he would lead India in the highly important tournament, scheduled to be held in Pakistan and Dubai. That said, there is more before that- a clean sweep over England would look to India, as the last ODI match is on 12 February, in Ahmedabad.
