IPL 2018: Rohit Sharma Calls An MI Bowler An Asset

Mumbai Indians (MI) will be defending their title in IPL 2018 as they have lifted the coveted trophy 3 times in the history of IPL and hence, they are the only team with the most number of titles in the history of the tournament. MI skipper Rohit Sharma has been very instrumental as a player and has been the leader on all three occasions.

Over the last few seasons, they have have been able to gather some skillful pool of players in the ranks including the players like Lasith Malinga. Mitchell McClenaghan has also played few editions for MI and had been a consistent contributor for them. He affected quite a few scalps and has left batsmen clueless with his pace and bounce.

However, McClenaghan was released by the franchise ahead of the auction for this edition. Besides that, he remained unsold after he entered the auction with a base price of ₹1 crore. However, luck smiled on the New Zealand pacer as he was roped in by the franchise after Jason Behrendorff was ruled out owing to a back injury.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma has praised the Blackcaps’ pacer for his exploits with the leather for the franchise in a promotional event. Sharma said, “He (McClenaghan) is a great asset and he has been a performer for us. Due to some mishap during the IPL auction, we were not able to get him. But now we have got him and we are very excited to have him back. He has been a great performer for us.”

Rohit also spoke about legendary off-spinner Harbhajan Singh’s illustrious journey with the franchise in the past decade of IPL. Harbhajan has been one of the crucial cogs of the Mumbai franchise ever since the inception of the tournament has been one of their gun bowlers. As quoted in TOI, Rohit said, “We will miss Harbhajan. His experience has been immense and he has been a great asset to our team. We will definitely miss him.”
