The Indian team hit the training ground with high intensity ahead of their final Group A match against New Zealand on Friday, February 28. Unlike Thursday, when only Shubman Gill trained while the rest of the squad took a break, the Friday session was mandatory, with all players actively participating. Among those under the spotlight were captain Rohit Sharma and fast bowler Mohammed Shami, both of whom had sustained knocks during India’s crucial win over Pakistan.

There had been concerns over Rohit and Shami’s fitness, but their presence at the ICC Cricket Academy training session put those doubts to rest. Rohit batted for nearly an hour in the nets, showing sharp footwork, particularly on the back foot, against both pacers and spinners. However, his left hamstring was heavily taped, and he opted out of intense fielding drills, suggesting a cautious approach to his recovery.

Mohammed Shami, on the other hand, started his session a bit gingerly, still feeling the effects of the knock he took against Pakistan. However, as the session progressed, he looked comfortable and in rhythm, sending down deliveries at full tilt, indicating his readiness for the New Zealand clash.

Virat Kohli, as always, brought his trademark intensity to the nets, launching powerful shots against the bowlers. Hardik Pandya also unleashed some big hits, while KL Rahul focused on wicketkeeping drills. Ravindra Jadeja balanced his practice between batting and bowling, ensuring he sharpened both aspects of his game.

A notable moment during the session was a lengthy discussion between head coach Gautam Gambhir and Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar. While the nature of their conversation appeared casual, their exchange naturally sparked curiosity about potential team strategies or selection discussions.

India will take a break from training on Saturday, March 1, following their recent approach of resting on the eve of matches. In contrast, New Zealand has opted for a practice session before the game.
