A worrying moment unfolded at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday (April 13) during the IPL 2025 clash between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians, as Ashutosh Sharma was forced to leave the field after a scary collision with teammate Mukesh Kumar. The incident occurred in the penultimate over of the Mumbai Indians’ innings.

On the second ball of the 19th over, Tilak Varma sliced a slower delivery from Mohit Sharma toward the backward point region. Both Ashutosh, stationed at backward point, and Mukesh Kumar, fielding at short third man, charged in for the catch.

In the absence of a clear call, both players kept their eyes firmly on the ball and ended up crashing into each other at full pace. Neither fielder was able to hold onto the catch, and both immediately looked in discomfort after the impact. The Delhi Capitals’ physio rushed onto the field, and after a brief check-up, Ashutosh Sharma was escorted off, holding his shoulder, sparking concerns in the DC camp.

Delhi will be hoping that the injury is not serious, especially given Ashutosh’s importance in the middle order. The young batter had starred in DC’s opening game with a heroic 66-run knock against Lucknow Super Giants, leading them to a remarkable win.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians made the most of their chances and ended their innings at an imposing 205/5. Despite another low score from Rohit Sharma (18), MI’s batting flourished thanks to solid contributions from Ryan Rickelton (41), Suryakumar Yadav (40), and a classy fifty from Tilak Varma, who struck 59 off 33 balls. Naman Dhir added late firepower with a blistering 38 off just 17 deliveries, helping MI breach the 200-run mark for the first time this season.
As the Capitals chase a stiff target, the extent of Ashutosh’s injury could be a crucial factor.
