Pakistan’s wrist-spinner Shadab Khan has been penalized by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during his side’s second T20I match against the West Indies in Karachi. He has fined 20 percent of his match fee for his offense.
Shadab was found guilty of a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel during Monday’s Twenty20 International against the Windies in Karachi. He breached Article 2.1.7 of the code, which relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batsman upon his/her dismissal during an international match”.

The incident took place in the ninth over of the Windies’ innings when Shadab, after dismissing Chadwick Walton, pointed his finger at latter and also made an inappropriate comment. After the match, Shadab accepted his offense and also accepted the sanction proposed by Match Referee David Boon of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees and, as such, there was no need for a formal hearing.

Sanction on Khan was leveled by on-field umpires Shozab Raza and Ahmed Shahab, third umpire Ahsan Raza, as well as fourth umpire Khalid Mahmood. Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 percent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.

The men in gree have dominated the three-match T20I series against a depleted Windies squad, handing the visitors back-to-back losses in the two matches to date to claim the series with a match still to play.
Pakistan went on to win the second match by 82 runs to clinch the three-match T20I series 2-1 at the National Stadium. The ongoing T20I series helped the comeback of international cricket in Karachi for the first time in nine years and concludes on Tuesday with the third and final fixture.
