Jasprit Bumrah, one of India’s most iconic fast bowlers, has expressed his excitement about cricket’s historic return to the Olympics in 2028. Speaking to former Australian captain Michael Clarke on the Beyond23 Cricket Podcast, Bumrah shared his enthusiasm over the sport’s inclusion in the Games, which will mark its first Olympic appearance in over a century.

“It’s something I never thought I’d see in my career — cricket becoming an Olympic sport,” Jasprit Bumrah remarked. “The idea of playing for a medal at such a global event is thrilling. I’m definitely looking forward to it, but I try not to get ahead of myself. It’s important to stay grounded and enjoy the journey.”
Jasprit Bumrah, known for his ability to balance workload across all three formats, was asked about how he manages the pressure and his long-term goals. He admitted that while the Olympics is an exciting prospect, he prefers not to set rigid targets.

“Whenever I’ve set goals, they’ve somehow eluded me,” he said with a smile. “That’s why I take one day at a time, play with joy, and collect memories — because, in the end, that’s what will stay with me.”
Cricket’s last Olympic appearance dates back to the 1900 Paris Games. Since then, the sport has evolved dramatically, and with ICC’s concerted push, it is set to return at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
Both men’s and women’s tournaments are expected to feature six teams each, with 15-member squads, making it a tightly contested and elite event. The host nation USA, is likely to earn direct qualification, while the remaining five slots will be filled through a global qualification process yet to be finalized.

While the Olympic dream remains a future goal, Bumrah’s current focus is firmly on the present. He is gearing up for a crucial IPL 2025 Eliminator clash, where his side will take on the Gujarat Titans at the New PCA Stadium in Mullanpur on Friday, May 30. As always, the fast bowler remains calm, committed, and ready to deliver when it matters most.
