In a major leadership move, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has named Sanjog Gupta as its new Chief Executive Officer. Gupta will officially take over the role on July 7, 2025, becoming the seventh CEO in the history of the global cricket body. A stalwart in India’s sports and media landscape, Gupta currently holds the position of CEO, Sports & Live Experiences, at JioStar.

With over 20 years of experience in content strategy, media operations, and sports commercialisation, he is widely credited with redefining the way sports—especially cricket—is broadcast and consumed in India.Welcoming the appointment, ICC Chairman Jay Shah hailed Gupta as a forward-thinking leader who brings a rare blend of innovation and deep industry knowledge.
“Sanjog brings tremendous expertise in sports strategy and media commercialisation. His understanding of global sports, media, and tech—combined with his passion for the fan experience—makes him the ideal leader for cricket’s next chapter,” Jay Shah said, highlighting cricket’s growing ambitions, including its inclusion in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Gupta’s appointment followed an exhaustive global search that saw over 2,500 applicants from 25 countries. After rigorous screening and multiple interview rounds, the ICC Nominations Committee—comprising Imran Khwaja, Richard Thompson, Shammi Silva, and Devajit Saikia—unanimously backed Gupta. The full ICC Board later ratified the recommendation.

In his first public statement after the announcement, Gupta described the opportunity as an “honour” and promised to help cricket break new ground. “Cricket is evolving rapidly—women’s cricket is surging, marquee events are growing, and new digital platforms are transforming how fans engage. With the Olympics on the horizon, we are at the cusp of exciting possibilities,” he said.
Gupta began his career in journalism before joining Star India in 2010. He went on to lead Disney Star’s sports portfolio from 2020, where he pioneered innovations like multi-language feeds, women-centric sports content, and digital-first strategies.
