Virat Kohli, one of India’s cricketing greats, shared his admiration for tennis legend Novak Djokovic during a recent conversation while attending Wimbledon 2025. The former India captain expressed his desire to see Djokovic lift yet another Wimbledon title—one that would further solidify the Serbian’s claim to being the greatest of all time.

Speaking to Vijay Amritraj on Star Sports, Virat Kohli revealed, “I’ve been in touch with Novak for a while now. We’ve exchanged messages, and he’s always been gracious. I’d love to see a final between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak, but ideally, Novak winning the title would be incredible at this stage of his career.”

Djokovic, seeded sixth this year, showed immense resilience on Centre Court, coming from a set down to beat Australia’s 11th seed Alex de Minaur 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 to reach his 16th Wimbledon quarter-final. The victory also marked his 101st career win at the tournament, placing him alongside the likes of Martina Navratilova and Roger Federer in the elite “100 wins club.”

Interestingly, Federer himself was in attendance for the match, seated in the Royal Box with his wife Mirka. Novak Djokovic now prepares to face Italy’s Flavio Cobolli, the 22nd seed, who overcame former finalist Marin Cilic in four sets. A win here would push Djokovic one step closer to a record-equalling 25th Grand Slam title.

Kohli, who was accompanied by his wife and Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma, looked visibly thrilled to be back at Wimbledon, soaking in the elite sporting atmosphere. Having recently retired from Test and T20I formats, Kohli reminisced about the pressures of cricket compared to tennis.

“In cricket, there’s very little margin for error,” Virat Kohli said with a laugh. “You get one chance. Make a mistake, and you spend the rest of the day clapping from the dressing room. Tennis allows for comebacks—cricket rarely does.”

With Kohli’s legendary 123-Test career behind him, and Djokovic still chasing greatness, fans of both sports were treated to a memorable crossover moment on Centre Court.
