As the much-anticipated third Test between India and England at Lord’s draws near, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has voiced his confidence in the Indian side, lauding their resilience and fighting spirit. With the series finely poised at 1-1, Ganguly reflected on India’s journey so far and highlighted their ability to bounce back after setbacks.

“India has played well overall. Even though they lost the first Test in Leeds, their performance across both matches has been commendable,” Sourav Ganguly said, speaking to IANS on his birthday. “But with three matches still to go, it’s too early to predict how the series will unfold.”
India’s response after the Leeds loss was emphatic. After conceding a five-wicket defeat in the first Test, India stormed back with a record 336-run victory at Edgbaston — their biggest overseas win by margin of runs and their first-ever Test triumph at the venue. The win marked a strong statement from Shubman Gill’s side heading into the Lord’s clash.

Sourav Ganguly believes the conditions at Lord’s could tilt slightly in India’s favour. “If the pitch has some life in it, that works to India’s advantage. Our batters are in form, and the bowling attack has shown they can take 20 wickets,” he said confidently. “It’s evenly matched, but we have the edge if we make the most of the conditions.”

One of the defining aspects of India’s resurgence has been the sensational form of skipper Shubman Gill. The 25-year-old amassed 430 runs in the Edgbaston Test, scoring 269 and 161 in two remarkable innings — the second-highest match aggregate in Test history. Ganguly was all praise for the young leader.

“Scoring 260-plus in a single innings is phenomenal. Gill’s career is heading in a new direction. While it’s his honeymoon phase as captain, the real test will be how he handles pressure and expectations going forward,” Sourav Ganguly concluded, urging caution amidst rising hopes.
