India came heartbreakingly close to pulling off a memorable chase in the third Test at Lord’s but ultimately fell short by 22 runs, bowled out for 170 in pursuit of 193. Ravindra Jadeja stood tall amid the collapse, battling through the final day to remain unbeaten on 61 off 181 balls. His gritty knock nearly dragged India across the line, but the lack of support from the other end proved costly.

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly expressed his disappointment over India’s missed opportunity, especially after Jadeja’s heroic effort.

Speaking at the Indian Racing League & F4 India Championship on July 15, Sourav Ganguly said, “A little bit disappointed with the way India batted in this series. They should have chased down that 190. When you see Jadeja fighting the way he did, and considering the quality in this batting lineup, I think the team will be more disappointed than I am. This was a chance to go 2-1 up in the series.”

With stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli stepping away from Test cricket earlier this year, Jadeja remains one of India’s most seasoned campaigners. Ganguly acknowledged Jadeja’s all-round brilliance and underscored his growing importance in the Test setup.

“Jadeja has been outstanding. As long as he keeps batting and performing like this, he will remain a vital cog in India’s Test side. He has been around for a long time — 80 Tests, over 200 ODIs — and you can see how much he brings in all three departments. His batting has evolved remarkably, and his experience now reflects in the way he constructs innings under pressure. He’s a special cricketer and a very important part of this team,” Sourav Ganguly concluded.
