Sarfaraz Khan’s transformation off the field is now grabbing as much attention as his runs on it. Known for his flamboyant strokeplay and mountain of runs in domestic cricket, the Mumbai batter surprised fans and experts alike with a visibly leaner and fitter frame during India A’s recent tour of England. What raised more eyebrows was that the transformation was not the result of a crash course at a fitness centre, but a disciplined, home-driven effort—led by his father and mentor, Naushad Khan.

Sarfaraz has reportedly shed close to 17 kilos in recent months, with an initial 10 kg drop before the India A matches. The visual impact of his transformation drew praise from cricketing legend Kevin Pietersen, who commended the youngster for showing commitment to fitness—an area that had been a point of concern in his career.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Naushad revealed the strict but straightforward dietary strategy that powered Sarfaraz’s transformation. The family collectively cut out staples like roti, rice, sugar, and processed foods, replacing them with a high-protein, nutrient-rich diet.

“We haven’t touched roti or rice for the past one to one-and-a-half months. Our meals are now full of grilled fish, grilled chicken, boiled eggs, green vegetables, avocados, and salads. Even sugar and bakery items have been eliminated,” Naushad Khan explained. The change wasn’t limited to Sarfaraz—Naushad, who is preparing for knee surgery, also joined his son on this health journey, shedding 12 kilos himself.

According to Naushad, the aim is to bring Sarfaraz to an even fitter level, with plans in place for further weight loss over the next few months. The father-son duo’s discipline is a reflection of their belief that fitness is now as necessary as form in the modern game.
Sarfaraz, 27, finally broke into the Indian team during the home Test series against England in early 2024, impressing with his fearless approach and solid technique. Despite his performances, competition for a middle-order spot kept him out of the playing XI during India’s tour of Australia. He also missed out on selection for the ongoing England series.

However, his hundred in the India A vs England Lions clash and an impressive knock in the intra-squad match proved he’s knocking hard once again. With a new physique and the same hunger for runs, Sarfaraz Khan’s story of transformation might just be the fuel he needs for a stronger second coming in Indian colours.
