Andre Russell’s glittering T20I journey came to an emotional end at Sabina Park, his home ground in Jamaica, as the West Indies star received a fitting farewell in the final match of his international career. Both his West Indies teammates and the visiting Australians lined up to give the 37-year-old a guard of honour, acknowledging the contributions of one of T20 cricket’s most explosive all-rounders.

A two-time T20 World Cup champion, Russell was also presented with a special memento ahead of the match, marking the end of an era. And in true Russell style, he delivered one last reminder of his power-hitting prowess.

The right-hander smashed a whirlwind 36 off just 15 balls, hammering two boundaries and four towering sixes. His late-innings fireworks lifted West Indies to 172/8 before he was dismissed by Nathan Ellis in the 17th over.

Andre Russell had announced before the series began that he would retire after playing the first two games of the five-match T20I series. In his farewell message, Russell reflected on his journey with pride and gratitude.

“Words cannot explain what it meant,” he said. “Representing West Indies has been one of the proudest achievements of my life. As a kid, I never imagined reaching this level, but as I grew into the game, I realized what was possible and aimed to inspire others wearing the maroon.”

He added, “Playing at home in front of family and friends has always been special. I wanted to finish on a high, showing what’s possible and leaving a legacy for the next generation of Caribbean cricketers.”

Russell may have signed off from the international stage, but his impact will echo in West Indies cricket for years to come.
