The 2025 edition of the Asia Cup is set to return in a hybrid format, with the United Arab Emirates officially confirmed as the host nation. Announced by Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi following the council’s meeting in Dhaka on July 24, the tournament will run from September 9 to 28. It will be played in the T20 format—aligning with preparations for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

Naqvi, who also serves as the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), expressed his enthusiasm in a social media post: “I am delighted to confirm the dates of the ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2025 in UAE. The prestigious tournament will take place from September 9 to 28. We look forward to a spectacular display of cricket.”

The competition will feature eight teams: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, UAE, Hong Kong, and Oman. With a total of 19 matches scheduled, there is strong anticipation surrounding India and Pakistan being placed in the same group. This opens the door for three thrilling face-offs between the archrivals—one in the group stage, another in the Super Four, and a potential blockbuster final.

While India has been designated the official host, the logistical responsibilities will be carried out in the UAE. The BCCI is currently finalising the tournament schedule, although a few commercial elements remain under negotiation. Given that Indian sponsors and broadcasters account for a significant chunk of tournament revenue, the stakes are high.
Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI), which holds broadcasting rights through 2032 under a reported $170 million deal, will be eyeing strong viewership, particularly for the high-octane India-Pakistan encounters.

Interestingly, the BCCI opted not to attend the Dhaka meeting in person, citing political tensions with Bangladesh. Vice-president Rajeev Shukla participated virtually. Meanwhile, the scheduled India-Bangladesh bilateral series in August 2025 has now been postponed indefinitely due to the ongoing diplomatic strain between the two nations.
