Team India pulled off a remarkable escape at Old Trafford on Sunday, turning what looked like an inevitable defeat into a morale-boosting draw in the fourth Test against England. With the series on the line, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar rose to the occasion, scoring magnificent centuries and batting England out of the game.

Their unbeaten partnership frustrated Ben Stokes’ side and ensured India lived to fight another day in the series. Though India still trail 1-2, the draw keeps their hopes alive as they now gear up for the decisive fifth Test at The Oval, starting July 31. The Old Trafford stalemate, earned under immense pressure, felt no less than a victory for the Indian camp.

Reflecting on the turnaround, Gill told BCCI.TV that the belief to survive came during his crucial stand with KL Rahul early on Day 4. “To stay focused for 140 overs is a test in itself, and that’s what separates good teams from great ones. We showed today why we’re a great team,” he said. “At 0 for 2, the partnership with KL bhai gave us belief. To escape with a draw from that position is immensely satisfying.”
