India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, has acknowledged the challenging nature of the ongoing tour to England, calling it a test of character steeped in historical rivalry and competitive intensity. Speaking after India’s gritty draw in the fourth Test in Manchester, Gambhir reflected on the tour’s ups and downs and the unwavering support the team has received from fans in the UK.

India managed to claw their way to safety in Manchester, denying England a series-clinching win and keeping the five-match series alive with one final Test to go. England currently hold a 2-1 lead, having triumphed at Leeds and Lord’s, but India’s fightback has set up an exciting finale.
“Touring this part of the world has always been both exciting and challenging,” Gautam Gambhir said at a special event held at the India House in London on Monday. “The history between the two countries in cricket is deeply rooted and can never be forgotten. We’ve truly cherished the support from the Indian community here every time we’ve come to the UK.”

The Indian team was warmly welcomed at the High Commission event, which community leaders, parliamentarians, and cricket enthusiasts attended. Despite trailing in the series, India’s performance has drawn praise for their resilience and their ability to bounce back after difficult phases. Gambhir pointed out that the series could have swung in India’s favour had they not let go of key moments in earlier matches.

Reflecting on the series so far, Gautam Gambhir noted, “The last five weeks have been thrilling for fans of both countries. The level of cricket we’ve seen has made every cricket lover proud. Both sides have fought hard, exchanged blows, and battled for every inch on the field.”
As the fifth and final Test looms, Gambhir issued a rallying call: “One more week to go. One last push to make our country proud. Jai Hind.”

India’s High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram Doraiswami, echoed similar sentiments. “This series has brought out the true essence of Test cricket — battles that stretch five days, moments that test resolve. Team India’s grit and skill on this tour symbolize the fighting spirit of the new India,” Doraiswami remarked, commending the squad for their spirited performances on English soil.
