Parthiv Patel has expressed strong confidence in Shubman Gill’s ability to deliver another defining knock in the upcoming fifth and final Test against England at The Oval. With the series on the line, Patel believes India’s young captain has what it takes to lead from the front with the bat once again.

Gill has been the standout performer of the series so far, amassing a remarkable 722 runs in just four matches at an average of 90.25, including four centuries. He is now just 11 runs short of breaking Sunil Gavaskar’s long-standing record for the most runs by an Indian captain in a single Test series.
Speaking about India’s batting, Parthiv also praised senior opener KL Rahul for his consistency, highlighting how the stylish right-hander has scored 511 runs at an average of 63.87.

“Rahul has not only been consistent but has also batted with maturity,” Parthiv Patel said. “We’ve often seen him start well and then fade, but this time he’s carried his form right through. Plus, he loves batting at The Oval. Let’s not forget that hundred in 2018 with Rishabh Pant — he’ll take confidence from that.”

With Rishabh Pant sidelined due to a fractured foot, Patel backed Dhruv Jurel to take up the gloves in the final Test. Jurel, who has filled in admirably in Pant’s absence before, is expected to take over as the primary wicketkeeper.

“I don’t see India changing their opening pair — Rahul and Jaiswal have been rock-solid. As for the wicketkeeper, it should be Dhruv Jurel. The only question is his batting position,” Parthiv Patel concluded, confident in the young keeper’s ability to handle the big stage.
