The much-anticipated clash between India Champions and Pakistan Champions in the semi-final of the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 has been officially called off, marking the second time in the tournament that a high-voltage Indo-Pak encounter has failed to take place. Scheduled for July 31 at Edgbaston, Birmingham, the fixture was supposed to be the highlight of the knockout stage. However, due to India’s withdrawal, the match has been scratched again.

Earlier in the league phase, the two teams were set to face off on July 20. But that match too was abandoned after several Indian players chose to boycott the game, citing ongoing political tensions between the two nations. As a result, both teams were awarded a point each.

Ahead of the semi-final, the organisers announced that the Pakistan Champions would progress directly to the final, following the India Champions’ decision to pull out. While acknowledging India’s concerns, the WCL organisers also appreciated Pakistan’s intent to take the field.

In a statement, the organisers said, “At WCL, we’ve always seen sport as a bridge for peace and unity. But public sentiment is paramount. We respect India Champions’ decision to step back, and we equally acknowledge Pakistan Champions’ readiness to play.”

India’s journey in this tournament has been far from smooth. With just one point from their first four matches, they were on the brink of elimination. It took a dramatic finish in their final group game — chasing 145 in 14.1 overs against West Indies — to secure a semi-final berth, thanks to standout performances from Stuart Binny, Yuvraj Singh, and Yusuf Pathan.

Unfortunately, that thrilling win turned out to be their last appearance this season. On the other hand, Pakistan Champions have looked dominant, winning four of their five group games. Mohammad Hafeez’s side now awaits the winner of South Africa vs Australia in the tournament final.
