India’s rising batting star Yashasvi Jaiswal has made a surprising U-turn on his decision to leave Mumbai cricket and join Goa for the upcoming domestic season. Earlier this year, the 23-year-old had cited personal reasons and even secured a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to make the move. However, a timely conversation with India’s ODI captain Rohit Sharma changed everything.

According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, Rohit personally reached out to Jaiswal and urged him to reconsider his decision. He reminded the young opener of the platform Mumbai cricket had provided in shaping his journey to the Indian team.
MCA President Ajinkya Naik confirmed the development, stating, “Rohit explained to Yashasvi that there is immense pride and prestige in representing a team like Mumbai, which has won the Ranji Trophy 42 times.”

Naik further added, “He told Yashasvi not to forget that Mumbai gave him the opportunity to showcase his talent—from playing cricket on the maidans to progressing through every age-group level. It was this very system that led him to the India U-19 team and eventually to the national side.”

Jaiswal had initially written to the MCA in April, expressing his intent to relocate to Goa with his family and requested an NOC for the switch. But after discussions with Rohit and other senior Mumbai players, he formally asked the MCA to withdraw his transfer request. The association accepted his decision and welcomed him back.

Jaiswal, originally from Uttar Pradesh, moved to Mumbai at age 11 with dreams of becoming a cricketer. His career skyrocketed after a record-breaking double century in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and a Player-of-the-Tournament performance in the 2020 U-19 World Cup.
