Shubman Gill, the rising star of Indian cricket and current Test captain, is all set to lead North Zone in the upcoming Duleep Trophy 2025. The 25-year-old Punjab batter will not only represent his zone but will also take charge as captain, continuing his growing leadership journey in domestic cricket. Gill had earlier led Punjab during the Ranji Trophy this year and will now look to guide North Zone in one of India’s most prestigious red-ball tournaments.

North Zone are scheduled to face East Zone in the opening quarterfinal of the Duleep Trophy, which will be played at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground in Bengaluru from August 28 to 31.
This won’t be Gill’s first taste of leadership in the Duleep Trophy. In 2024, he captained the India A side. Still, he endured a disappointing outing, with his team falling short by 76 runs to Abhimanyu Easwaran’s India B. Gill managed scores of 25 and 21 in that match, failing to make a significant impact.

However, Gill quickly bounced back in international colours. In the two-match Test series against Bangladesh later that year, he smashed an unbeaten 119 in the first Test in Chennai, reaffirming his class and form ahead of the domestic season.

The Duleep Trophy 2025 is also set to feature a host of other top talents. Yashasvi Jaiswal will represent West Zone under Shardul Thakur’s captaincy, while Tilak Varma will lead South Zone. Their squads also include the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sarfaraz Khan, Devdutt Padikkal, Jagadeesan, and R Sai Kishore.
Ishan Kishan will captain East Zone, and their squad features seasoned names like Easwaran, Mukesh Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Akash Deep, and Riyan Parag.

Gill enters this tournament after a dominant showing in the five-match Test series against England, where he amassed a staggering 754 runs, including a double century and three tons — a testament to his red-ball excellence and hunger to lead from the front.
