Bangladesh cricket is embracing innovation as freshly-appointed power-hitting coach Julian Wood introduced the ProVelocity Bat to both the men’s and women’s teams. This rod-shaped training tool, which has already caught attention on social media, is designed to enhance power-hitting by focusing on hand-eye coordination, sequencing, and batting mechanics.

The unique bat works on resistance and swing mechanics. If a batter hears a double click while using it, it signals that they have achieved the correct bat speed and swing mechanics required to push the barrel to the end of the bat. This, in turn, allows them to generate maximum power behind their shots—something Bangladesh cricketers are aiming to improve ahead of major tournaments.
During the Bangladesh Women’s preparation camp for the 2025 ODI World Cup at BKSP, Wood spent six days working closely with players to sharpen their range-hitting skills. Batting coach Nasiruddin Faruque praised the innovative method, saying it could prove highly beneficial for players who want to expand their power-hitting repertoire.

“If the batters lack speed or proper mechanics, they’ll only manage a single click instead of a double one. It’s a fresh approach for us, different from traditional drop feeds or machine-based hitting drills. I think it’s a good method, an innovative idea,” Nasiruddin Faruque told Cricbuzz.

He also explained how conditions play a key role in adopting this baseball-style technique. “In the subcontinent, wrist work is vital, especially on pitches like Mirpur. For instance, Indian bowlers often bowl within the wrist’s range. But on bouncier tracks, a horizontal bat swing—more baseball-like—becomes very effective. Wood agreed with this observation,” Faruque added.

The timing of this training couldn’t be more crucial. The Bangladesh men’s team will gear up for the Asia Cup, while the women’s side prepares for the T20 World Cup, both scheduled to begin in September. With the introduction of modern tools like the ProVelocity Bat, Bangladesh hopes to add more muscle and precision to their batting arsenal in global competitions.
