The BCCI has announced India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, scheduled to be played in the UAE. Suryakumar Yadav will lead the side, with Shubman Gill named vice-captain in what is seen as a crucial step in grooming him for future leadership roles. The squad includes a mix of experience and fresh talent, with notable selections such as Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh.

Dube’s all-round ability has been a big asset for India in recent months, particularly in the middle overs where his power-hitting and medium pace bring balance to the side. Gill’s elevation as vice-captain reflects his consistent performances across formats and the team management’s trust in him as a long-term prospect.
One of the biggest talking points, however, has been the inclusion of Rinku Singh. While Rinku has shown immense finishing skills in the IPL and on the international stage, his inability to provide a bowling option raises debate.

In IPL 2025, he averaged just 12.18 balls per innings, scoring 206 runs at a strike rate of 153.73. His role remains limited to explosive cameos, with questions over whether an all-rounder like Washington Sundar or Riyan Parag might have been a more balanced choice. Interestingly, Rinku has started experimenting with part-time bowling, delivering low-arm slingers reminiscent of Kedar Jadhav.

Among notable omissions are Shreyas Iyer, Washington Sundar, and Prasidh Krishna. While injuries and form may have played a role, their absence highlights India’s shift towards younger, more dynamic players.

With Jasprit Bumrah leading the pace attack, supported by Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana, and Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy handling spin duties, the squad looks well-rounded. Fans will keenly watch how this combination fares as India chase Asia Cup glory in the UAE.
