Punjab’s bowling coach Gagandeep Singh has shed light on young pacer Arshdeep Singh’s growing impatience during India’s recent Test series against England. While every other pacer in the squad got at least one opportunity, including late entrant Anshul Kamboj, Arshdeep was left warming the bench throughout the tour.

Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj were automatic choices, while Prasidh Krishna was given the nod ahead of Arshdeep. Just when it seemed a chance might come his way, the left-arm quick picked up an injury before the Manchester Test, ruling him out completely. So far, Arshdeep has featured in 21 first-class games, claiming 66 wickets at an average of 30.37, including two five-wicket hauls.
Recalling a recent conversation with the pacer, Gagandeep Singh said, “A few months ago in England, he told me he was getting impatient. I simply advised him to wait for his moment.”

The coach, however, felt the youngster deserved an outing. “They should’ve played him in England. He’s tall, a natural swing bowler, and has the tools to trouble batters. Perhaps the team management, led by Gautam Gambhir and Shubman Gill, wasn’t fully confident about him,” he told The Times of India.

Looking ahead, Gagandeep Singh emphasized that Arshdeep must sharpen his swing and consistency. “He can be a much better bowler with more accuracy. From what I’ve seen, there’s scope to improve his line and length, yorkers, and especially bouncers—key weapons at the international level.”

Despite the disappointment in England, Arshdeep’s wait for a big stage opportunity may soon end. The left-arm pacer has been named in India’s squad for the Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE, starting September 9, where he will look to showcase his skills on a grand platform finally.
