The Hyderabad pacer missed the Leeds and Manchester matches but made significant contributions in the remaining fixtures, finishing with 13 wickets and a remarkable half-century with the bat.

Speaking about Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Deep rated the world-class seamer as a game-changer, dismissing claims that India won matches in England solely because Bumrah missed a few games. He emphasised Bumrah’s quality as a match-winning bowler who can turn games single-handedly.

Similarly, he praised Mohammed Siraj for managing his workload effectively, noting how Siraj maintained intensity and fitness throughout the series despite the demanding schedule. Reflecting on playing under Shubman Gill, Akash Deep described the experience as both exciting and fruitful.

“I had played under his captaincy in the Duleep Trophy last year, and even then, I had a very good experience. In one of those matches, I took 9–10 wickets. Wherever I’ve played under him, I’ve performed well. I consider that lucky for myself,” he said. He further highlighted Gill’s calm and composed demeanor as a captain, noting that clear-headed leadership instills confidence in the team.

Akash Deep also lauded Indian bowling coach Morne Morkel for his pragmatic approach. “Morne keeps things simple. He understands each bowler’s strengths and makes small technical adjustments where needed. His simplicity makes it easier for us to understand and apply his advice,” he explained.

Recalling his expectations before the England series, Akash Deep admitted the conditions were far different from what he had imagined. English pitches, which he expected to favour pace bowlers, turned out to be challenging with minimal swing and seam movement, and high-scoring matches became common.

“I told myself the only thing I can control is bowling in the right areas. Overthinking the conditions only adds pressure,” he added.

Sticking to his strengths, Akash Deep became the first Indian bowler since 1986 to claim a 10-wicket haul in England, showcasing his disciplined approach and mental toughness in difficult conditions. This candid interview highlights Akash Deep’s journey as a young fast bowler, his respect for senior teammates, and his learning curve under Shubman Gill’s leadership, promising a bright future for India’s pace attack.
