Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj has opened up about the special bond he shares with India’s Test captain Shubman Gill, shedding light on their long-standing camaraderie both on and off the field. In a conversation with Boria Majumdar on Revsportz, Siraj fondly recalled their journey together, from early days in India A cricket to sharing some of the biggest moments in their international careers.

“Shubman and I have been together for a long time. We’ve played India A, spent time off the field, and even made our Test debuts together at the MCG. We also reached the No. 1 spot in ODIs around the same time. We have plenty of memories together. He’s also the captain of Gujarat Titans, and we often bat together in the nets where I keep teasing him, calling him my bunny. Our understanding is very easy, and it shows on the field. He knows what I want, and I know what he wants. I’m really proud of his growth as a leader, and with him now being India’s vice-captain for the Asia Cup, I hope he brings the trophy back,” Mohammed Siraj said.
His words highlight the chemistry between the two youngsters who have risen through the ranks almost hand in hand. Siraj believes their bond will continue to play a crucial role in India’s success in upcoming assignments, especially the Asia Cup 2025.

Gill’s meteoric rise has been remarkable. From Leeds to London, his solid technique and hunger for runs turned heads worldwide. He finished his last overseas campaign as the leading run-getter, amassing 754 runs at an average of 75.40, a record-breaking tally that underlined his dominance in challenging English conditions.

Shubman Gill fine-tuned his batting style with subtle yet effective adjustments—bringing his bat ahead of his pads and refining his footwork to gain extra time for his strokes. These tweaks paved the way for four sublime centuries, including his career-best 269 at Edgbaston, a knock that not only silenced critics but also delivered India their first-ever Test win at the historic venue.

Stepping into the shoes of legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli at No. 4, Gill has proven he can thrive under pressure. His leadership, too, has shown promise, as he guided India to a hard-fought 2-2 draw against England in his debut Test captaincy stint. His next test of captaincy awaits in October, when India hosts the West Indies in a two-match series.
