Sarfaraz Khan produced a scintillating counter-attacking 111 to rescue Mumbai against Haryana in their All India Buchi Babu Invitational match on Tuesday. Mumbai had been in a precarious position at 84 for four after electing to bat, but Sarfaraz’s composed yet aggressive innings turned the tide. He smashed nine fours and five sixes off 112 balls, reaching his century with a massive six off his 99th delivery at the MRF Pachaiyappa’s Ground.
The right-hander, who previously scored 138 against TNCA XI in the tournament, has been away from the Indian squad after the Australia tour and was not selected for the England tour. Mumbai’s top order faltered, losing openers Musheer Khan (30), Divyaansh Saxena (46), Pragnesh Kanpillewar (3), and Suryansh Shedge (1) in quick succession.

Shams Mulani contributed an unbeaten 50, while Tanush Kotian fell short of his milestone on 48, as Mumbai closed day one at 346 for nine. Elsewhere, Ruturaj Gaikwad returned to form with a brilliant 133 off 144 balls, including four sixes, for Maharashtra against Himachal Pradesh.

Arshin Kulkarni added 146 runs, helping Maharashtra post 440 all out, while Prince Thakur’s 7/144 was the standout for Himachal Pradesh. In other matches, Shashank Tiwary’s 5/54 helped Chhattisgarh bowl out TNCA President’s XI for 266, and the team was 4/0 in response. TNCA XI fought back through Chandrasekar DT’s three wickets, reducing Bengal to 58 for four, trailing by 145 runs.
