With the Asia Cup fast approaching, all eyes are on Team India as they look to defend their crown under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav. Adding to the excitement, former India opener Virender Sehwag has named his three standout picks who he believes could be game-changers for the Men in Blue.

India will kick off their campaign against the UAE on September 10, and Sehwag feels that Abhishek Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Varun Chakravarthy could be the players to watch.
“Abhishek Sharma can be a game-changer. Bumrah is always a game-changer. Varun Chakravarthy, with his mystery spin, was very effective in the Champions Trophy and the T20 format. These are players who can win matches on their own,” Virender Sehwag told Sony Sports.

Abhishek Sharma’s rise has been nothing short of spectacular. Since making his T20I debut against Zimbabwe in July 2024, the southpaw has surged to the No. 1 T20I batter ranking, thanks to his fearless strokeplay. The Asia Cup will mark his first big test on a continental stage, where he’ll be expected to deliver at the top of the order.

Sehwag’s second pick, Jasprit Bumrah, remains the heartbeat of India’s bowling attack. The pacer, who last featured in T20Is during the 2024 World Cup, missed the Champions Trophy due to a back injury.
Even in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, he was carefully managed across formats. However, Bumrah proved his T20 credentials yet again in IPL 2025, picking up 18 wickets in 12 matches at an economy of 6.67. Completing Sehwag’s list is Varun Chakravarthy, whose mystery spin has been a revelation on his comeback.

The off-spinner dominated Bangladesh and later bamboozled England in early 2025, earning the Player of the Series award. His record of 33 wickets in 18 T20Is since his return showcases his impact and consistency. With a balanced squad that blends youthful firepower and experience, India will hope these three stars can rise to the occasion and guide them to Asia Cup glory once again.
