Unlike his father, Virender Sehwag, who often relied on Bollywood classics to settle into long innings, young right-hander Aaryavir Sehwag prefers a quieter, more focused approach at the crease. The 17-year-old, son of the Indian batting legend, made his debut in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025 for Central Delhi Kings, showcasing a composed and determined style, intent on carving out a cricketing identity of his own.

Facing East Delhi Riders in Match 39, Aaryavir played a quick cameo of 22 runs off 16 balls, including four crisp boundaries that highlighted his adventurous strokeplay. However, the debut wasn’t without its challenges. Confronting international-level pacer Navdeep Saini, the young opener took four balls to get off the mark, the weight of his surname evident in the initial nervousness.
Reflecting on his first DPL outing in an interview with India Today, Aaryavir Sehwag admitted, “It was my first match, so I was nervous. My dad used to get nervous too — it’s not like he didn’t. But yes, I was definitely nervous.” He added that his father’s advice helped him find focus: “I keep repeating in my mind: ‘Watch the ball, play straight… watch the ball, play straight.’ Once you hit two or three boundaries, you just start reacting on instinct.”

Once settled, Aaryavir displayed the composure befitting a prodigious talent. His first boundary came with a smooth loft over extra cover, followed immediately by a confident drive through the covers. Subsequent strokes off Rounak Waghela towards third man and long-on further showcased his timing and fluency. Unfortunately, his innings ended when he mistimed a shot and was caught by Mayank Rawat, leaving the youngster disappointed.

Post-match, Aaryavir Sehwag candidly reflected on his dismissal: “I could have done better. I had already scored two boundaries in that over, so I should have rotated the strike instead. I’m disappointed, but I hope to do well in the upcoming matches.” Despite the early exit, he impressed with his approach and technique, hinting at a bright future.
With Central Delhi Kings posting 155/6 and winning by 62 runs, Aaryavir revealed his admiration for India’s current batting stalwarts: Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill. “Just their presence on the field feels amazing. They are match-winners for India, which is very important,” he said.

Asked about surpassing his father’s records, Aaryavir Sehwag was determined to forge his own path: “He has a lot of records, and I’ll try to set many records of my own and break quite a few too.” Carrying the confidence of his lineage, Aaryavir Sehwag’s journey has just begun, and the cricketing world will be watching closely as he charts his own legacy.
