Indian cricket star Shubman Gill, who hails from Punjab, expressed his heartbreak over the destruction caused by the floods. Sharing his thoughts on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, “Heartbroken to see my Punjab devastated by floods. Punjab will always be stronger than any adversity, and we’ll rise up from this. My prayers are with all affected families. Standing strong with my people.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken directly with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, assuring him of full support from the Centre to manage the crisis. “Immediately after landing in Delhi, Prime Minister Modi called Chief Minister Mann to discuss the situation due to heavy rain and flooding. He has assured him of all possible help,” an official told PTI.

As a precautionary measure, the Punjab government has announced the closure of all colleges, universities, and polytechnic institutes until September 3. Mann personally visited flood-hit areas in Hoshiarpur, promising every effort to safeguard lives and provide relief. Calling this one of the “worst floods in Punjab’s recent history,” he emphasised that the state machinery is working around the clock.
